Lara Yamada has been a journalist for more than 20 years – working in six stations in five states — from the east coast, to the mid-west, to the Pacific Northwest. For the past six years, she’s been home in Hawaii, currently working at KITV4 News as an anchor and reporter. She earned her journalism degree at the University of Oregon, but early in her career, she also worked in production, doing every job available — from directing shows, to creating graphics, to pulling cables for live events. Over the years, she’s picked up a handful of awards, including one for a series about American troops fighting overseas, and several awards for a one-hour special on the aftermath of the devastation in Japan. To this day, one of her favorite things to do is go back to Kauai where she grew up, pick tangerines and avocadoes from her family’s backyard and talking story by the campfire.
